I-LEAD Charter School Curriculum

The ILCS curriculum meets the Chapter 4 content standards and requirements set for the state of Pennsylvania. Our curriculum includes remedial, regular and honors classes that meet our learners’ varying needs. Learning tools are chosen based on school-wide and classroom demographics that cater to learners’ specific skills and deficits. The core classes and curriculum used at ILCS are:

Core

  • Mathematics (College Preparatory Mathematics aligned to Pennsylvania State Standards and Common Core Standards)
  • Science (Glenco: Biology, Physical Science, and Earth and Space; ChemCom: Chemistry – aligned to Pennsylvania State Standards and Common Core Standards)
  • English (Holt is aligned to Pennsylvania State Standards and Common Core Standards)
  • Social Studies (TCI is aligned to Common Core Standards)
  • English Language Acquisition (ELA) Class is a daily 90 minute course for learners who score 2.9 or below on World-Class Instructional Design and Assessment (WIDA) testing, which is administered to learners who list English as a second language and those who have not scored 4.0 or higher in previous assessments.

Electives

  • Art (painting, digital photography, drawing)
  • Health (offering Love Notes, a research based curriculum on good decision making and relationships, in collaboration with Community Prevention Partnership)
  • Physical Education/Flip Fitness
  • Spanish I
  • Personal Development: emotional intelligence, decision making, and career/life planning
  • Introduction to Philosophy, Sociology, or Psychology (offered on a rotating basis)
  • Dental Assistant Certificate Program (introductory allied health courses placing learners on a career track in oral health, seeking accreditation from the ADA, sponsored by the Shils Fund)
  • Latinos in U.S. History (produced by ILCS faculty with the support of the National Park Service).
